Join us tonight for our first Open House and Fundraiser - with treats.

Tonight we are gathering to celebrate the ways we, together, are making the world a more beautiful place, and talk about how we can do more of that.

How We ArtLucked Into Summer

How We ArtLucked Into Summer

One more ArtLuck before we hit the summer months for rest. It turns out to be a doozy.

Pam shows up early to help. We bring out enough chairs, we think. Then people begin to arrive and we find out we were wrong. In the best way. We've underestimated.

All the Broken Beauty of Community: An ArtLuck Recap

All the Broken Beauty of Community: An ArtLuck Recap

We begin with a smaller crowd than usual, but we do begin. When I say smaller I mean both numbers and size. Edward Van Vliet has brought his two sons, Samuel and Aden. Our youngest ArtLuckers in a while. It’s always inspiring to see what kids bring to the table.

On a table by the door, the kids leave their sketchbooks, next to paintings by Daniel Van Heyst. With two Vans and a Von (that’s me), we’re definitely ready to begin.

A Poem A Day Keeps the Lazy Away

I've been challenged by good friend Edward Van Vliet to join him in NaPoWriMo. We are writing a new poem every day for April - Poetry Month.

I took this one with great trepidation, but so far, I'm happy with the results. It's amazing what will speak when you give it voice.

I've written 7 poems so far, and you can find them all on my personal website at davevonbieker.com/blog

Part of the joy of posting things raw is the feedback I have received. It's making me a better writer. Taking comments into consideration on yesterday's poem, here is a rewrite, which I'm only posting here for now.

Show and Tell: Key Questions for Artists

Any artist can benefit from the questions Edward raised. The artist life can be a whirlwind. Often wedged into the nooks and crannies between the 'real' job, family time and social commitments, we can spend all of our time creating our work, without stopping to consider what we are trying to say and to whom. These big 'why' questions are too easily left unanswered, or even unasked. Edward Van Vliet has graciously shared some guiding questions from that workshop. The questions revolve around three key areas; Artist, Show and Tell.
